Wax Melts 101: How to Enjoy Beautiful Fragrance Without a Wick
What is a wax melt?
A wax melt is a scented piece of wax designed to be gently warmed instead of burned with a wick. As the wax melts, it releases fragrance into the surrounding space.
Wax melts are a wonderful choice for customers who enjoy changing fragrances frequently. They can be used to create a cozy atmosphere in living rooms, bedrooms, offices, and other spaces where an appropriate wax warmer can be operated safely.
Choose the right warmer
Always use a warmer made specifically for scented wax and follow its manufacturer’s instructions. Some warmers use an electric heating element, while others are designed for a small tea-light candle.
Place the warmer on a stable, level, heat-resistant surface away from drafts, curtains, children, and pets. Never add water, fragrance oil, or other ingredients to the warming dish unless the warmer’s manufacturer specifically directs you to do so.
If your warmer uses a tea-light, never leave the flame unattended.
Start with a small amount
More wax does not always create a better fragrance experience. Begin with one appropriately sized piece and make sure the melted wax will remain safely below the rim of the warmer’s dish.
Fragrance strength can vary based on the size of the room, airflow, warmer temperature, and scent profile. A fresh citrus fragrance may feel bright and noticeable, while a soft vanilla or woody blend may develop more gradually.
Give the fragrance time to circulate before deciding whether to add more wax.
Know when it is time for a change
Wax does not disappear as quickly as candle wax because it is being warmed rather than consumed by a wick. Over time, however, the fragrance will fade.
When the wax no longer produces the desired scent, turn off the warmer and allow it to cool. Follow the warmer manufacturer’s directions for removing the wax. Avoid using sharp objects that could scratch, crack, or damage the warming dish.
Never pour melted wax down a sink or drain.
